The Undergraduate Internship Program is designed to provide a unique opportunity for the next generation of scientists to explore an alternative career option in biomedical research by gaining experience in a national resource and core facility environment. Each year 2 undergraduate students will be selected to spend 9-weeks during the summer in the IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics working on a project relevant to human health. This internship will provide exposure to daily operations and best business practices in a national resource environment. Interns will interact with core facility users and gain experience in experimental design, sample preparation, data collection and analysis of the proteomic data.
Mission:
- Provide a unique opportunity for the next generation of scientists to explore alternative career options in biomedical research by gaining experience in a national resource and core facility environment.
- Provide on-site training to undergraduate students in state-of-the- art proteomics workflows (experimental design, sample prep, data collection, and bioinformatics)
Logistics:
- Internship includes a $6,000 stipend, along with university privileges for the participants residing on campus including use of the library, computer labs, and recreational facilities.
- A $400 travel award is available for each participant for travel to a national conference or regional scientific meeting to present their research in the year following the internship.
